Peppermint Candy Ornaments

If you need a super fun, easy way to keep the kids busy for awhile during the winter break, these ornaments are just the thing. Adult supervision is a must, as you will need to use the oven. We made these at my sister’s house the day after Thanksgiving and it kept the four kids under age 7 very busy.

You will need hard peppermint candies, metal cookie cutters, cooking spray, wax paper, a cookie sheet, wooden skewers and twine.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Line the cookie sheet with wax paper. Spray the cookie cutters with cooking spray. Unwrap the peppermints and fill the cookie cutters. Some space is just fine- the candies will melt and fill in the space.

Bake for 5 to 10 minutes, until candies are melted. Caution: the candies will start to turn brown if you leave them in too long.

Allow to cool slightly. Before the ornaments have had time to harden, make a small hole with the wooden skewer. (Spray some cooking spray on the skewer first.) Be very careful not to burn yourself.

After the ornaments have cooled, gently pop them out of the cookie cutters. This was not too difficult, but we did break one or two of the miniature ones.

Add twine and tie in a bow.

They are ready to hang on the tree!

Ornaments 2

We had so much fun, making ornaments and memories with the cousins at Auntie’s house.

Happy memory making of your own friends!
