Today, I needed a Halloween card, but found myself without any Halloween stamps.
What to do, what to do?
That’s when the Sheltering Tree stamp set came to the rescue! The tree looks perfect stamped in black against a full moon in a sunset sky.
The background was created using a brayer with Hello Honey and Tangerine Tango. For the moon, I used a circle punched from a sticky note and then brayered over the top. The little pumpkin is just three circles with the edges sponged.

P.S.
Does that sketch look familiar? I was all set to play along with the Paper Players this week, but realized I was too late! Oh, well.
This sketch was created by the lovely Joann, although I modified it a bit to fit a notecard size.
Go take a look. (But not until you let me know what you think!)
So, so cute!! Love the vellum & the moon! Thanks for the great idea, Michelle!
Thank you, Cheryl, so nice of you to say so!
This is such a cute Halloween card. What I love so much about this stamp set, is that you can use that tree to fit all holidays and seasons. It was a very good choice for a stamp of the month.
I am so happy to hear you say that, Sandra! I try very hard to pick stamp sets that can be used for many purposes, and this one is probably the best for that ever!
I love your new Halloween card! I can not wait to get my own Sheltering Tree stamp set! Also let me say that I love all the new stuff in the new Holiday catalog. Thank you Michelle for all your help. 😊
My pleasure, Sarah! This set has been one I turn to again and again. I’m happy to hear you love the new Holiday catalog. It is full of amazing inspiration.
Michelle this card is amazing. Each time I look at it there is something else that has me asking “how did she do that?” Most has been figured out but you have me stumped on stamping on cardstock and vellum. Did you stamp the tree on two sheets then match the branches up or did you line the papers up side by side temporarily attached then stamp?? Sure wish you lived closer and I could attend a class with you!! If you have a minute and could explain would appreciate it greatly. Glad to have you back in my inbox again. That means all is relatively calm in your household.
That was so kind, I teared up a bit, Rosemarie! Thank you very much.
I’m glad you asked about how I stamped the branches because I forgot to talk about that part! Stamping on vellum can be tricky because the ink takes longer to dry. So my first tip is, be careful not to smear it. For this card, I stamped the tree on the oval first, hanging a good portion of it over the edge. I then layed the oval on the vellum piece exactly where I wanted it. I held the tree stamp above the two pieces and lined it up exactly. This took a bit of patience. Once it was lined up, I removed the stamped oval piece, being careful not to bump the vellum piece, and stamped the tree on the vellum. This method only works with the photopolymer stamps, since you can see through them. I have seen other demonstrators stamp on both layers at once, but mine ALWAYS leaves an ugly spot that is not stamped at the edge.
Does this explain it well enough? If not, let me know. I have been dying to start making videos, but with a new two year old in the house, it just isn’t happening!
Thanks ! Excellent explanation. Hoping to try this technique with a friend once she gets over her bug. Didn’r mean to upset you … just know if blog is missing family is calling first. As it should be! Just thinking two year old tires me out!! Have a fantastic day!
Great card Michelle. Congratulations.
Thank you, Helen, your support mean so much.
So so cute!
