A Sneak Peak: Thankful Forest Friends

Thankful Forest Friends Baby Card Close Up

Hi friends!

Today I have a fun sneak peak for you from the new Stampin’ Up! holiday catalog. This stamp set is called Thankful Forest Friends and it was designed for fall and Thanksgiving, but when I saw the adorable little bunny for the first time, I just knew I had to stamp him in pink.

I added him to the inside, too. Isn’t he just the cutest little guy?

The sketch is from Freshly Made Sketches, one of my favorite challenge blogs.

Watercolor Fun

Aqua Painters Stampin365

Welcome, I’m so happy you stopped by today!

Don’t you just love happy mail? Letters from friends, postcards, and magazines are all such highlights amongst stacks of bills, right?

One of the things I always look forward to receiving in the mail is the bimonthly publication put out by Stampin’ Up! for demonstrators called Stampin’ Success. The May/June issue had an absolutely beautiful invitation on the front using the flower from “Choose Happiness” and an aqua painter to create a watercolor effect. In addition, they added a few strands of gold taken from the 1/8″ gold ribbon. It was GORGEOUS!

Then, to my absolute delight, The Paper Players issued a challenge to create a clean and simple card using watercolors.

While my card is very different from the one on the front of the magazine, it, along with the challenge, did inspire me to create this card:

Watercolor Card Stampin365

I simply used an aqua painter and a Tempting Turquoise stamp pad to paint a background on watercolor paper. Next, I stamped the flower in Rose Red and used the Aqua Painter to create the watercolor effect. I fussy cut it out after it was dry. To easily remove strands from the gold ribbon, cut off the white edge first. I also added a vellum branch from the bird builder punch and a sentiment from Indescribable Gift.

If you have not had a chance to watercolor with Aqua Painters yet, you really should give it a try! Also, be sure to head of to the Paper Players and see all of the beautiful inspiration from the designers and in the gallery. Watercolors turn an ordinary card into a lovely work of art.

Happy stampin’ friends!

Using Watercolors With Stamps

Mother's Love stampin365

Recently, I discovered a card on Pinterest that combined watercolors and stamps and I was in love! Although I took a watercolor class in college, my skills in that area are sorely lacking, so adding watercolors to stamps is the perfect solution.

In addition to watercolors and stamps, I’m in love with challenge blogs, so for this card I’m linking up to two. The Paper Players have this lovely challenge:

And the talented Narelle at Freshly Made Sketches has this fantastic sketch for everybody this week:

Watercolor Tips:

For the diagonal stripes and the “for you” sentiment, I used gray watercolors. I had to blot the stripes after I stamped them and the I stamped off for the words. Apply the watercolors directly to the stamp. I have noticed that if you use too much water, it doesn’t work well. I had to experiment a little to figure it out.

For the rose, I did two layers of watercolors, first in a bright pink and then in an apricot shade. My watercolors are Schylling brand and intended for “young artists.” Ha!

After the watercolors were dry, I added the detail stamp to the blossom in Strawberry Slush. I should also mention that the rose was done on Stampin’ Up! watercolor paper and I fussy cut it out.

Indescribable Gift

FMS #177 stampin365

Have you been to Freshly Made Sketches lately? If not, you should go check them out. Better yet, enter this week’s sketch challenge!

This lovely sketch by Karren leaves me with so many ideas:

Here in Oregon, all of the trees are in full bloom and putting on quite the show, so this Indescribable Gift stamp just seems like a must. I stamped it in Crisp Cantaloupe on vellum and then used a sponge dauber to add some color to the center of each blossom on the back of the vellum, which gives a gives a soft effect. I have also seen other stampers use white embossing powder on vellum for this stamp -GORGEOUS!

Easter is one of my favorite times of the year and I was happy to see that Stampin’ Up! Only Challenges blog has a challenge to create an Easter card, so I am joining them today, as well. If you haven’t been over to their blog, be sure to check them out!

Playing with Color

Paper Players #235 Close Up Stampin365

I was so excited when I saw the lovely color challenge over at The Paper Players this week. Aren’t those colors gorgeous for spring?

Paper Players Color Challenge #235

These colors make me happy and I owe a huge thank you to The Paper Players, because I don’t think I’ve ever used them together.

Before I stamped the flowers, I inked them up in So Saffron and then added Crisp Cantaloupe to the edges with a sponge dauber. After I stamped the image, I used the end of a skinny paint brush handle to add the color to the center of each bloom.

There’s still time to play along with this color challenge- be sure to go check out The Paper Players and all of their beautiful inspiration!

Stacked With Love For Fab Friday

You & Me For Fab Friday

The large & sign from the Stacked With Love paper collection is wonderful, but I was waiting for some inspiration on what to do with it. Then I found this color challenge on Fab Friday Stampin’ Challenge Blog and an idea was born.

Fab Friday 57

These colors just happen to be the exact colors in the papers from Stacked With Love, so I made little banners and put them in the top corner.

Vallentine Banenrs

I created a custom envelope with all the “ands” I could think of and added a little saying to the front of the card.

You & Me Envelope

Then I added the punch line and decorated the inside:

You & Me Valentine

I used My Digital Studio because I could choose Real Red for the sayings.

Valentine For Fab Friday

Overall, it was a very fun card to create and I am grateful to Fab Friday for the inspiration! Be sure to go check them out for lots of inspiration and fun ideas.

Another Card For Freshly Made Sketches

FMS 172

Well, between a very sick little girl (it’s pneumonia) and a very sick dog (it’s a bacterial infection) I have not had time to post this card I made for Freshly Made Sketches earlier this week. Thankfully, antibiotics are mightily at work, and things seem to be headed back to health at our house.

Have I mentioned before how much I love Freshly Made Sketches? I had been wanting to use the flower from “Crazy About You” with the “Best Year Ever”paper and when I saw this week’s sketch, instantly I  knew what I was going to do.

The lovely sketch by Linda is so versatile:

FMS 172 Sketch

I put the flower where the big heart is. This flower is so easy to make with the Flower Medallion Punch. The center of the flower is the Hello Honey Quilted Cotton Ribbon, frayed with the fringe scissors, rolled up and inserted through a hole in the center.

FMS 172 Close Up

The little round postmark from Butterfly Basics is perfect where the little heart in the sketch is and the colors in the Best Year Ever paper are just so pretty.

Hubby is slowly but surely teaching me photography, which is almost as much fun as stamping. This week’s lesson: the Bokeh technique. What do you think?

Be sure to check out Freshly Made Sketches for lots of beautiful design inpiration. Also, don’t forget about the creative blog hop. I nominated LaToya and Linda for Monday’s post. Be sure to go see what they’ve been up to. It’s always so much fun to see their creativity at work!

Hello Baby for Cardabilities

Hello Baby 3

Recently, I found a beautiful challenge blog called Cardabilities and I felt inspired to try out the beautiful scrap book style.

Here is the lovely sketch:

Cardabilities 116

Isn’t it pretty? I had been wanting to use the little pink roses in the Artisan Embellishment Kit and when I saw this sketch, the card quickly fell into place.

The roses are just beautiful.

Hello Baby

And the soft pink is just perfect for a baby girl.

This girly, layered baby card was so fun to create and I am so thankful I found Cardabilities to help inspire me!

Be My Valentine

Be My Valentine

Just when I had my craft room almost all cleaned up, I decided I needed to make one more card. I had recently purchased this “Be My Valentine” for My Digital Studio and was antsy to use it. I had also visited a few challenge blogs including Freshly Made Sketches, whose sketch was stuck in my head, and Stampin’ Up! Only, where the challenge is to create something with Valentine wishes, so I got to work and made this card. After all, it’s more fun to create than to clean up, right?
