Holiday Greetings For A Faithful Friend

Boo to you

I have a dear friend who never forgets to send me a card for every holiday. Sadly I, on the other hand, often forget holidays like Halloween or St. Patrick’s Day. Her cards mean so much to me that I wanted to be ready this year with the perfect handmade Halloween card.

My inspiration for the layout came from a sketch over at another one of my favorite blogs, Freshly Made Sketches. Here is the lovely sketch:

It’s always nice to do a little something special on the inside, too:

When I think about my friend, and how she always remembers to send a card on holidays, I feel inspired to be just like her. There’s just something about finding a greeting card in the mailbox that makes not only my day, but my whole week! Whose week will you make today?

Happy stampin’ friends!

A Fall Card for the Paper Players

Thank You for Caring 2

Sometimes creativity is hard to force. Other times, a card flows naturally, even effortlessly. TODAY’S CARD WAS NOT THAT CARD! I created the wood background and then it just sat there. For days. No matter how hard I tried, I could not come with a layout or combination I liked.

It all started when I found this challenge over at one of my favorite blogs:

The paper players #212

If you have not been there, go visit thepaperplayers and see all of the GORGEOUS cards. The designers and the entrants always amaze me. Now, I’m not gonna lie, I think part of my problem with this card was I was intimidated! I had oohed and aahed my self into a place of fear.

Fear is terribly bossy. It whispers mean things. Things like: mine isn’t good enough. I’m not that creative. I can’t measure up.

I’ve been trying to stretch myself, get out of my comfort zone, and overcome fears like these. So, I stopped listening to the voice of fear, went back to the drawing board, kept trying, and finally came up with this card. Here is a close up:

Thank You for Caring 3

And guess what? I like it! Friends, if you are reading this, and you can relate to fear creeping in and spoiling your creativity, just know this: yours is good enough. You are creative. You measure up. Don’t let fear get in the way of your creativity today. Let go, have fun, and remember you can do it!

Happy stampin’ friends!

Merry & Bright

I’m so in love with the champagne glimmer paper from Stampin’ Up! and I had fun today making snowflakes out of it with the new snowflake card thinlits die set.

Although I turned it sideways, my layout was inspired by this week’s challenge at freshlymadesketches.

Here is the sketch:

Fun, Fun, Fun!

Fun, Fun, Fun

Yesterday’s card was all fall, but today I want to cling to summer just a wee bit longer! I was delighted to find this sketch at palpaperarts and was quickly off to my craft room to create this card using leftover summery Project Life supplies.

Here is the lovely sketch that inspired the card:

Project Life is the absolute best way to preserve memories and I am so excited I tried it out. I will post more about that later, but in the mean time, I wanted to let you know that the adorable accessory packs come with more than enough to create a few cards on the side- how fun is that?!?

Hello Fall

Hello Fall Card

Today’s card is a sneak peek at a gorgeous set from the Holiday catalog. Items from the Holiday catalog will be available to purchase starting August 28! This set is called “For All Thing” and I absolutely love it!

The card was designed for a challenge at Freshlymadesketches. Here is the very pretty sketch:

The leaves were done by sponging the ink onto the stamp. You don’t want your ink pads to get discolored from the other inks, so squish some ink into the lid and use that. It’s good to experiment with different looks- try it our, it’s very fun!

A Color Challenge

Strawberry and black card

Happily, I found another challenge today! I just love seeing the designer’s cards and all of the entries, not to mention my brain starts to go into overdrive with ideas! Today’s challenge comes from Pals Paper Arts. You can visit their exciting blog here. This is the challenge:

Paper Pals Color Challenge 215 JPEG

Their challenge made me happy because I had just been thinking that maybe, just maybe, I had been over using strawberry slush, but, oh, it’s my favorite! I have always been a pink girl. In college, I was made fun of more than once because I wore so much pink. So yay! I got to make another card with the luscious strawberry slush! And doesn’t it go gorgeously with the pear pizazz and basic black. Yummy!

I embossed the blended bloom stamp in black on the strawberry slush and then fussy cut it out. The ribbon was white and I used a sponge dauber with strawberry slush ink to color it to match and then I scrunched it up for a more vintage feel. (Let it dry first, or it will be messy!) The leaves were all detailed with pear pizazz ink and a blender pen. Typeset designer series paper is becoming one of my go to favorites and was the perfect background. Here is a close-up:

Good Thoughts

Typeset Flower

Today’s card was inspired by two challenges. The first one was challenge #102 from SUOchallenges and asked for anything created with our “favorite new toys” from Stampin’ Up! My mind started whirling and I couldn’t wait to get started. Then I hopped over to freshlymadesketches and found a beautiful sketch by Jen M. Here is her sketch:

Freshlymade Sketch Challenge 148 JPEG

I spent the day feeding kids, cleaning up, then feeding kids again, my mind whirling with ideas all the while. Suddenly, I remembered one of my very “favorite new toys” is the Typeset Designer Series paper. I featured the paper on an earlier post here. This paper is amazing! It is lighter weight than regular designer paper and a dream to work with when making the spiral flower rose. I had been looking for a way to use the pieces with numbers and bold diagonal stripes. Instantly, this card popped into my mind and I scurried off to make it. When I was finished, my hubby told me he would pin it if he saw it, so I was one happy girl! I wasn’t finished until I played with another of my latest toys and made an envelope with the envelope punch board. (Which is new to me and had been on my list for while.)

Challenge Fun

Cupcake Card

Have you spent time on any of the Stampin’ Up! challenge blogs? These blogs have excellent ideas for layouts, color combinations, themes, and more. Today’s card was inspired by two fabulous blog challenges. One is from I just love this blog, run by some mighty talented fellow Stampin’ Up! demonstrators. Here is their sketch:

Fab Friday 47 JPEG

The second challenge comes from another favorite of mine: If you haven’t yet, you should go visit both of these blogs! Here is the “cute as a button” challenge from the oh so talented paper players:

Go see the amazing cards the designers have created, along with all of the beautiful challenge entries. It’s so fun to see how each person interprets the challenge.

Stampin’ Up! designer series paper is awesome. I love to have it on hand for adding a perfectly coordinated touch to my cards.

The cupcake builder punch is my go to item when I want to effortlessly add a bit of fun to cards or gift tags.

Sadly, the designer buttons on this card are no longer available- I apologize. This card just needed a little something more and I’m trying to use up what I have left of retired products.

A Fresh Approach

Freshly Made Sketch Card

Today’s card is my 5th attempt at creating a clean and fresh card for a challenge at If you have not seen their blog, you should go look- it’s fabulous! This proved to be difficult for me because I really love anything vintage or fancy, but it wouldn’t be a challenge if it didn’t make me work, right?

One of my goals as a paper crafter is to branch out and create with more variety in my projects- so I owe a huge thanks to the team at freshly made sketches- thank you!

Here is the sketch:

The flower was made with the blossom punch and the center was made with fringe scissors. I cut out a petal to make the flower different- come back tomorrow for step by step photos and directions.
