Cozy Christmas Ornament

Hello, friends, how are you today?

Recently, I found an adorable ornament created by Melissa over at Everydaysavvy.com and I just knew I had to make one with the santa stamp from the Cozy Christmas stamp set.

I added the moon behind Santa and his reindeer and embellished the top with little jingle bells and some banners made out of the Home for Christmas designer paper and the Jingle All the Way stamp set.

This was quick and easy and so much fun to make!

Instructions:

I purchased the 3″ ornament, designed to hold a photo, at the craft store. It’s plastic and opens up. Inside, there was a clear plastic circle.

To make the moon, I made a mask and punched a 1 3/8″ circle in the middle. I layed the mask over the clear plastic circle and applied my white Stazon ink pad directly to the exposed circle, gently tapping until the area was well saturated with ink. (Being careful not to move the mask!)

For the santa, I cut a second circle out of a window sheet and stamped him using black Stazon ink. The ornament was not big enough for all of the reindeer, so I had to mask the last two (sorry Donner and Blizten!) with tape. To avoid that step, you could purchase a larger ornament.

The ink takes a long time to dry on the plastic, so this part requires patience. Also, the best part is that if you mess up, the ink comes right off with nail polish remover and you can start over. Hooray for do overs!

When both layers where completely dry, I put the ornament together. I add artificial snow from the craft store, one tablespoon on each side of the plastic.

I added the decorations using gold cording (Stampin’ Up! gold cording is the best I’ve ever tried. No fraying, easy to tie, and very nice to work with. I’m going to stock up on it.)

A Very Special Graduation

Graduation

It’s official! My first born is a high school graduate. This wonderful young man of mine has been through so much…

Born three months prematurely,

Diagnosed with Spastic Quadriplegia at five months,

First wheelchair by 12 months,

Told he would never go to school,

Told he would be a “vegetable,”

19 surgeries in 18 years,

Ambulance rides and therapies and endless needle pokes,

but none of it has ever kept him down!

Now, I don’t think anybody should be referred to as a vegetable. All people, regardless of ability, deserve more dignity than that.

And let me ask you, does this happy graduate look like a vegetable to you?

Graduation 5

The world would be a better place if more people had this much joy! Not only did he graduate with an excellent GPA from a very academic school as a main streamed student, but he will be going to college in the fall to study sports journalism. He is the joy of our lives and we could not be more proud.

To celebrate, I created a banner just for him and I added his graduation cap as part of the decor.

When our son was first diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy as an infant, we decided to focus on one thing, and one thing only: all that he is ABLE to do. And let me tell you, the list is long. Very, very long.

Graduation 4

There is so much joy to be found when we focus on the can instead of can’t in life. I count myself one lucky momma to be blessed with a perfectly disabled son!

May this day bring you much joy and happiness.

Happy stampin’ friends!

Back From China!

Dragons

Hello, dear readers!

How have you been?

I’ve missed you all very much,

But just look at my adorable reason for being gone!

Big Smile

Isn’t he the happiest little boy? For those of you who may not know, we just traveled to China to adopt this cutie pie. He is almost two and we are over the moon, madly in love with him. He is mama’s boy and has already looked me in the eyes and said, “Wo ai ni, mama!” which means I love you, mama, in Chinese. Talk about melt this mama’s heart!

I have so much I’m dying to share with you and I am very excited to get back to creating and blogging after being gone for three weeks.

The new catalog is just around the corner…

Many of my all time favorite stamps and accessories are still available on the retirement list…

And my craft room is calling me to come have some stampin’ fun…

But,

For now,

I’m just so happy to be this little boy’s forever mama.

“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” John 14:18

Holding On

Easy Ornaments with Paper Scraps

Circle Punch Ornaments

When you create paper crafts, do you end up with piles of scraps you aren’t quite sure what to do with?

Well, here’s a fun, easy way to use up those pretty paper scraps, and all you need is a circle punch and a modern label punch. (Before I owned punches, I traced a circular object and cut things out by hand- that works, too!)

Here is a close-up:
