Sharing the Love of Crafting With Kids

Crafting With Kids

Hi, friends! Here is my blog post that was recently featured on the Stampin’ Up! corporate blog. I hope you enjoy!

As an independent Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, one of my favorite classes to teach is my “Mommy and Me” class. The class is open to children ages four and up, and I always have my daughter (age 6) help me create the sample. We love crafting together!

For my upcoming class, we will be creating these bright and cheerful little  3.75″ x 3.75″ mixed media notecards on Kraft Cardstock (item 133874).

Crafting with Kids 5

To begin, each child paints a 3.5″ x 3.5″ square of Typeset Specialty Designer Series Paper (item 133704) with a soft blue acrylic paint, purchased at my local craft store. I add a few drops of water to make it thinner and have them paint it on with a sponge brush. If the children get the paper too wet, an adult can gently dab it with a paper towel.

Next, an adult holds a cardstock stencil made with the Sunburst Thinlits Die (item 140617) in place, while the child sponges on the yellow rays, using acrylic paint and some bubble wrap. I show them how to dab the bubble wrap on the Grid Paper (item 130148) first so they don’t get too much paint on their project.

After a quick wash up, and while the paint drys, the kids use the Big Shot (item 113439) to cut the two smallest Flower Frames Collection Framelits (item 127012) flowers out of paper from the Brights Color Collection (item 138434).

Children love the Big Shot, and under adult supervision, I’ve had kids as young as two use it successfully.

Crafting With Kids 6

Each child makes four cards, adding Brights Designer Buttons (item 130028), a Floral Fair Framelits leaf (item 133731) and a stem in Cucumber Crush Cardstock (item 138335).

I have the moms create the “Just A Note” sentiment (item 140520), which really pops in Whisper White (item 101731) on Basic Black Cardstock (item 121045).

They then use the Envelope Punch Board (item 133774) and 6.5″ x 6.5″ copy paper to create four envelopes, held together with a piece of the same designer series paper.

The Berry Basket (item 137366), trimmed in matching paper and with a little green grass in the bottom, holds it all together perfectly. Creating these items can take a little extra help, so I put out snacks at this point and help one mommy/child duo at a time.

Lastly, with each mom’s help, they create a cute little Scalloped Tag Topper (133324) tag that says “for you” (item 140658) and has a flower that matches the cards. They tie it all together with a piece of 1/4″ Whisper White Cotton Ribbon (item 134567).

When they are finished, the moms and kids go home with an adorable project they can give as a gift or keep for themselves, and I have had the joy of sharing Stampin’ Up! with the next generation of crafters.

I can’t think of a more perfect way to spend an afternoon!

4th of July Berry Basket S’mores Holder

Berry Basket S'Mores Holder 4

Hello, friends! How are you?

Happy 4th of July to all who celebrate it! One of our favorite family traditions is S’mores on the 4th, so I decided to create individual holders for all of the ingredients.

Berry Basket S'Mores Holder

I saw the idea on this blog and my heart skipped a beat. I just knew I had to make some with Stampin’ Up! supplies!

Berry Basket S'mores Holder 3

They are super fun and super cute. If you love the red, white and blue paper- it’s called Maritime and is still available on the clearance rack. (While sullies last, of course.)

Hope your day is wonderful. For my Americans friends, how will you celebrate the fourth? I hope you’ll leave me a comment and let me know!
